About Us
Project Whoopee:
Humane Society is a not for profit 501C(3) Corporation Registered in
N.Y.S. and NYC, and have been spreading the word to people about pet
care as well as working with animals and people in the Bronx for over
thirty years. We do outreach
programs through various methods like schools, street fairs, community
events, and our Pushcart for Pets program: Animals Need Educated Humans
(A.N.E.H.). We go through the streets with our pushcart and distribute
information on different animal topics such as NYC Animal Laws, Health,
The Importance of Spaying and Neutering, Where to Go to Get a New Best
Buddy, etc.
To our knowledge
we are a one of a kind group in the Bronx. We feel that if we can help
one adult or one child out of ten then we have accomplished something,
and that something is one less abused or abandoned animal saved from
death. We have helped people become better informed about animals, even
if they don't own one.
There are many
different aspects to the Animal Rescue World; this is just one of them.
We're here to inform people of their rights and responsibilities as pet
owners and to let them know where to go to get information to help them
and their best buddy. We are not looking to reinvent the wheel, just to
make it run smoother and faster.
We are now available
for different events in the Bronx area. If you are interested, please
feel free to contact us. We are also available to answer any pet related
questions you may have. We are looking for artists to draw our
characters for our education program, and we are looking for people and
their pets to be interviewed for a show we are producing on Bronx Public
Access. It's fine if you're shy, all we need is to film your pet(s)
while you talk about him (tell us where the two or more you met, how old
they are, what they mean to you, etc.) Every other Sunday we are
usually out on the corner of Bainbridge Avenue and Van Courtland Avenue
East in front of the entrance to the Reservoir Oval Park from about 9am
to 12pm depending on the weather. For more information or to set up an
interview for you and your best buddy, please give us a call.
Due to budget
restrictions, we cannot take any animals from the public at the present
time. If you see a stray animal or have an animal to surrender please
call 311 and ask for the N.Y. Center for Animal Care and Control.
